Christine Hadley Memorial Fund for Family

On May 11th 2020, Christine Hadley’s long battle with diabetes suddenly ended, leaving her husband Nick and children Caty (16), Alex (15), Bella (13), and Diana (11) to deal with the crushing loss of a devoted wife and ever present, loving MOM. Her family and all of us in our church and community will miss Christine’s infectious smile and endless energy reserves to be present for duty no matter how she felt physically.
In our church, everyone knows the Hadleys as the family that for years has provided the altar servers for our Sunday Masses and more recently the ever-so-talented young cantor for the church choir. Years ago, when Christine heard there was a need at the early morning Sunday Mass for altar servers, she and the children transitioned from a comfortable rising to attend the 11 AM service to a rising with the birds to attend the 7:30 AM service. It was humorous and heartwarming to weekly see Christine usher in these young, sleepy-eyed, yet ever-smiling faces to serve the church community on Sunday morning. It was also incredibly inspiring to see Christine and Nick in the front pews of Mass proudly witnessing their children serving the generally older members of the parish at 7:30 Mass.
Our parish also benefitted as Christine volunteered her time to assist in our Sunday morning religious education program for our youth and to assist with church youth choir performances. Members of our church have witnessed and commented on the impact Christine’s Christ-centered example and instruction have had on her children and the way they are living their young lives.
In the wider community, Christine valued education and treasured the opportunity to learn and to assist others. She attended Fordham University before earning her Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Old Dominion University. She held a variety of jobs (at all of which she excelled) but the one which resonated most with her was as the secretary at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church. This was a position she held for nine years before deciding to stay at home full time to fully dedicate her life to her family and to her faith after the birth of her youngest child. More recently, after months of long hours and determined study, she successfully obtained an A+ computer maintenance certification. Immediately afterwards, she turned and offered tutoring assistance to students in the community pursuing a similar certification. She also passed this sense of service to the community on to her children. As an example, during the summers she ensured the children served breakfasts with other church volunteers to needy members of the community who frequented the parish food pantry.
While many are aware of the impact Christine had on our church members and the local community, with the following testimony her husband Nick has captured the treasure Christine has been to their family. “For more than half of my life I was blessed to have this amazing woman as my partner. In good times and bad... discovering how to live life in this world of man and how we fit into it...together against any and all adversities. Any good that is in me or that I have done or ever will do is because of her. She is the reason that our children are the fine young people that they have become, and it is because of her that even now, during the grief of losing their mother, that they able to persevere better than could be expected of any child. Her love, her faith, her honesty, and her strength were the pillars of our family... no, those traits were the nutrient rich soil in which the seeds of our family were sown, and she was the ever attendant, loving gardener. I pray that I can live up to being the man she saw in me and the father that my children need. That I can honor her by continuing to give them what she would have...nurturing love, unwavering faith, honest counsel and strength to live courageously in a world fraught with peril and strife.”
While so many families and our entire nation are going through a challenging time just now, we ask you to consider support of this family whose challenging times have just been incredibly magnified by an unexpected financial and life-long emotional burden. On behalf of the Hadleys, thank you for taking the time to read about Christine and her impact on her family, her church, and her community.
