Christine Breese needs your help for lifesaving treatments
My name is Christine, and until recently, my life has revolved around easing the pain of others. As a healer, teacher, and guide, my work has extended through the University of Metaphysical Sciences and the Gaia Sagrada Retreat Center. I have loved helping people transform through these programs.
Life has taken an unexpected turn for me though and my world has been upended. A few weeks ago, I experienced severe swelling in my spleen, liver, and pancreas. A week-long hospital stay revealed the presence of Stage 4 lymphoma cancer, marking the beginning of a new and uncertain chapter in my life.
The initial news was devastating and shocking, but after absorbing the news I’m feeling strong and positive. I know I can overcome this. The remission rates with chemotherapy are very high. Fortunately, there have been some recent advances in the treatment of this particular cancer. At 58 years old I am optimistic that I could continue my work for another 10-20 years. I know the universe is not done with me yet!
I see this as a gift and an opportunity, not a fight. It’s more of a wakeup call that some changes in my life/work balance need to be made now. I’m also seeing this as a gift to my work. I often work with people who are struggling with cancer. I’m grateful this will help me better understand what they are going through mentally, emotionally, and physically.
As many of you know, both UMS and Gaia Sagrada are non-profit corporations. My work has left me rich in many ways, but money is not one of them. I’m in a very vulnerable position now, with no insurance or savings to rely on.
After going over the costs of treatment, my goal is to raise $135,000. To help understand how it’s adding up so fast, I've already incurred $13,000 in expenses from my initial hospital stay and tests. The upcoming chemotherapy sessions, which have mandatory hospital stays, cost $10,000 each, once per month for 12 months.
I'm fortunate that Ecuador, where I live most of the year, offers excellent medical care at a fraction of U.S. prices. I will be at the SOLCA Cancer Institute in Cuenca, which is a state-of-the-art modern facility with a large team of cancer professionals, most of whom were trained in the USA. They have high success rates and I feel fully confident in these doctors, this hospital, and their programs.
I have always been an advocate for natural therapies whenever possible, but after much thought, prayer, and research, I feel Western medicine is needed at this stage of the game. I missed the window for trying alternative therapies. Stage 4 is serious and moves fast. At this point I am still strong and a viable candidate for chemo and immune therapy. I have decided this is the best direction to stop the spread of this illness. Western medicine has its place in crisis intervention, and I believe it’s going to save my life. I will, however, use the natural therapies after the crisis is over to keep the cancer from coming back.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Please consider contributing to my GoFundMe campaign and sharing it with your friends, family, and social networks. Asking for help isn't something that comes naturally to me, but your generosity will be the strongest medicine of all. Every dollar will bring me one step closer to recovery.
