Restore Jonestown Christmas Lights
Jonestown Christmas Lights Committee is committed to raising funds in memory of Jonestown historian Evelyn Isele and to see our Christmas lights restored to the main street of Jonestown.
2 years ago we lost the ability to display the 46 Christmas snowflake lights due to improper wiring. The residents of Jonestown and neighboring communities were upset and saddened at the loss. Christmas has not been the same since!
The Christmas Committee has been working with Met-Ed and Boro Council to get approval and the agreements in place to have the poles rewired with new outlets. Met-Ed is working hard to have as many poles as possible ready for this Christmas season with the ultimate goal of seeing 46 lighted snowflakes hanging from the poles. If Met-Ed is not able to finish them all this year the remaining ones will be completed for the 2017 Christmas season.
Boro Council and the Christmas Committee have been very vocal about not using tax payers money to fund this project. For that reason we are asking the public to help us bring Christmas lights back to Jonestown. In todays society towns are taking Christmas away, but the small Boro of Jonestown is keeping with tradition.
We have an invoice coming from Met-Ed in a few days and we need to pay the bill in order to have the work scheduled. Our desire is to have the work completed before Christmas. If we don't raise the funds in the next couple weeks it is likely that Jonestown will not have Christmas lights in 2016.
This fund will not only be used for the electrical work done by Met-Ed, but will also be used for the upkeep of the lights and electric bill incurred by the lights.
We are asking not only Jonestown residents to give, but also for those out of town folks who enjoy driving around to see Christmas lights.
We would appreciate any amount you can donate toward our cause and we look forward to seeing your smiles as you drive around town this Christmas!
Thank you from the bottom of hearts!
