Help Capitol Hill Police Sergeant and His Family

Donation protected
Sergeant Christopher Dang, a 17-year veteran of the US Capitol Police, sustained a traumatic carotid artery dissection which caused him to suffer a serious stroke on July 4th in Glynco, GA, at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. As some may know, he was based there for a three-month training program. Chris was taken to a nearby hospital and shortly after transported to the neurology Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Baptist Medical Center (BMC) in Jacksonville, FL, where he has remained since July 5. At BMC, he had undergone multiple risky surgeries and was in the ICU for three weeks under the care of a dedicated and accomplished team of neurosurgeons and health-care professionals. Chris was transferred out of the ICU on July 26 and is now waiting to be admitted to a rehabilitation center in Florida where he is expected to stay for three weeks until he is able to safely travel home to Northern Virginia where he resides with his family.

Even with the best of all possible results, it will be a long challenging road ahead for Chris, Linda and their young daughters. No matter the outcome, the short- and long-term financial costs associated with this health situation will be very burdensome on their family. Numerous friends and family have asked how they can help ease their burden, and some have expressed their strong desire to help offset some of these expenses. In response to these kind offers, Chris and Linda's family and friends have set up a “Go Fund Me” account for this purpose.

Funds will be explicitly used for the following: (a) medical/insurance expenses; (b) transportation expenses, as Chris will be immobile for at least several months, maybe as long as a year, and require transportation home to Virginia from Jacksonville, FL and later, rehab; (c) household management expenses such as utilities and meals; (d) occasional childcare services when Linda resumes work and relatives helping with childcare must return home.

Chris is now in stable condition, but the physical and cognitive impairment caused by the stroke adds a layer of complexity to their situation. The doctors advised us that the long-term recovery is intense, and will ultimately take several years. In short, any amount provided, no matter how small, will help make a difference.

For those of you who are able and interested in donating anything else – time, services, or other forms of support – please let us know. We are ever so grateful for your prayers, emails, and expressions of love and support as Chris and Linda with their daughters navigate this challenging journey before them. We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to the US Capitol Police Chief and personnel, along with FLETC instructors and classmates, who have provided a tremendous amount of support and dedication to Chris and Linda during these difficult weeks.
