Hello everyone. My name is ZAK Herrera and I am Chris' son. I am starting this Gofundme for my Papá to help cover the funeral costs. On 02/07/2024 my Papá had a massive heart attack while at lunch at his work. He had died there at work and then again two more times in the ambulance on the way to Riverside Community Hospital. When he arrived, the ER could not get him a room for the whole day and his family had to wait outside in the rain all day and night. There were over 20 of Chris' family members outside that hospital praying for him. At the time, only one person was allowed to go in and see my Papá. That person was my sister, Sarah, and she was the one who kept the rest of us updated. During the next few days, the hospital ran tests on my Papá's heart and an MRI on his brain. His heart was only operating at 10%. For context, a healthy human's heart is supposed to run at 50%-60%. The results of the MRI concluded that my Papá had suffered severe brain damage from the lack of oxygen to his brain. In total my father had gone 18 minutes without any oxygen. He was then declared brain dead. My sister and I had to decide when we were going to essentially "unplug" our Papá from life support. On 02/10/2024 all of Chris' family and friends gathered to say their goodbyes to him. We all shared stories and memories of the man my Papá was. He was loyal, a jokester, humble, kind, and most of all a friend to all. My father took the time and effort to let people know that they are loved and that he was there to support them. The time had finally come to take him off life support. My Papá survived a total of 12 hours off of life support and around 5am on 02/11/2024 he passed peacefully with only my sister ,Sarah, in the room. She had said that it was very peaceful and that he looked like he was just sleeping. Before he died, my Papá was very blessed. He was fortunate enough to have received many blessings from three different priests. With that, my family and I were eased knowing his soul was ready to move on.

This Gofundme fundraiser is to help pay for all the costs of the funeral. His death was very sudden and unexpected. He would have been 60 this year. My family and I are asking for any donations that can be made and we greatly appreciate any help. We have to pay the mortuary, the church, and the cemetery. It is our families' wishes that Chris be laid to rest with his parents and brother at Pierce Brothers Crestlawn Memorial Park and Mortuary. Once again, due to the sudden unexpected death of my Papá, our family needs any financial help to cover the costs of the funeral.
