Christopher John Keats, 54, was a loving husband of 5 years to his adored wife Eileen, and a close and beloved friend and mentor to many. His precious life was cut short on April 23, 2017 when he suddenly passed away from a cardiac arrest. Eileen attempted to revive her husband alone until Chris's friends on the fire department aided her until EMS and the ER joined the fight to save his life. Eileen and many of Chris's past students and friends gave everything they had to try to revive their friend, partner and teacher. Unfortunately, after over an hour of giving everything they could, Chris's heart stopped, and many other hearts were broken.
Chris married his love, his soulmate, and best friend Eileen O'Brien on November 25, 2011 surrounded by only a few of their best friends and closest family members. It was the day two souls that were created for each other were bound in a beautiful and simple ceremony. Starting their journey together as husband and wife. The lovebirds were inseperable, except when they were off helping others and saving their corner of the world, one broken person at a time.
The only thing in this world that Christopher loved more than his wife and family was his Lord, Jesus Christ, who was his constant help in times of trouble. It is his desire that you find solace for your sorrow through faith in God.
His unwavering devotion to God and to EMS, the family to whom he gave so much of his heart and his time, was beyond compare. He has educated thousands who have gone on to excel within the medical field. So many lives have been saved, touched, or made whole again through the efforts of all of his former students, his brothers and sisters in service, of whom he is so proud. Starting at a young age himself, Chris volunteered with both his local fire department and ambulance as soon as he was able beginning at the age of 15 years old. Chris has served the EMT class at Luzerne County Community College for the past 20 years, where he encouraged those new to EMS and helped them learn to be compassionate in addition to being educated. He also served as an EMT at Medic 10 in Wilkes Barre for the past 5 years, as a paramedic out of Presbyterian Hospital in NYC for many years, he was the local EMA coordinator during disasters in Bear Creek, and mentored the teaching staff of the Shamokin and Scranton EMT classes.
Chris did not have any life insurance or monetary funds set aside to help Eileen afford his end of life expenses. Unfortunately, many 34 year old wives do not think about funerals and unpaid bills that occur when a loved one passes away. Any donation that can be given to help with these current and future expenses would be greatly appreciated. It's time that we help a family who has spent their lives helping others.
God Bless Eileen & watch over Christopher.
