Christy Clevenger Needs Your Help!

Hello, Everyone! On Thursday, July 28th, Christy was thrown off a horse while visiting her parents in Childress. She landed hard and ended up with a dislocated and fractured hip. I am raising money to help offset the costs.

Christy is a trooper! She laid face down in an ant pile with a dislocated hip, reassuring folks that they were sugar ants to keep from being moved. After half an hour of excruciating pain, the EMS arrived and gave her some "feel-good" drugs. She was taken to Childress Medical, who evaluated her and decided she needed to be sent to a trauma center. She got loaded onto a King Air, flown to Ft Worth, and transported to John Peter Smith. They reseated her hip (six hours later!) and monitored her overnight, hoping surgery was unnecessary. Sadly, she entered the operating room the following morning and left with brand new titanium hardware and 49 (Forty-nine!) shiny staples in her hip and butt.

Her hospital stay lasted longer than expected due to low blood pressure caused by multiple anesthesias in a short period - along with the trauma. However, she has since improved and has been discharged. She is now resting at her sister's house. Getting her from the car to the couch on the ground level was arduous, and we live in a third-floor apartment. The doctor estimates it will be three months until she can be full-weight-bearing. She will require assistance with all basic daily tasks (showering, using the restroom, etc.). In addition, since they had to cut through muscle for the surgery, she will require extensive physical therapy to learn to walk correctly again.

While we don't have a firm number, our expenses are unlikely to be low given the extended recovery period. The money will be used for things such as home care, medication, physical therapy, and transportation costs. To say the least, as my fiancée, Christy is important to me. Any amount you can donate will help her greatly in her recovery.
