Please Join Me - Our pets are not property, they are sentient creatures
My name is Christy Sherman and I'm fundraising to change laws that are allowing our pets to be mistreated and killed, with no recourse. In addition to holding the “bad actor” vets accountable. My family has been personally impacted by a local veterinarian and is why I am so committed to supporting Joey's legacy whose mission is to bring awareness, provide support, and change legislation to keep the "bad actor"  veterinarians accountable.  They are self regulated and this needs to change.

Who is Joey’s Legacy?
  • Joey’s legacy is making a documentary to create awareness, educate, and change legislation to make vet malpractices illegal with real consequences.    https://joeyslegacy.org/
  • They have assembled some of the brightest minds in the area of veterinary medicine, grief counseling and animal law that assist those that come to them with claims of veterinary negligence that cause the permanent injury or death of their loved ones.
  • They have made great strides towards that end. They have assisted over 400 victims of veterinary negligence / malpractice.

My Goal
  • I'm raising 100k to benefit Joey's Legacy, Inc., and any donation will help complete the documentary.
  • Whether you have yet to be personally impacted… if every pet owner, regardless what state you live in donates $1 to $5 we could easily raise the necessary funds to make this a better world for the care of our companion animals and hold the veterinarians accountable.

Todays Laws
  • By law, pets are considered property in 49 states. Only Oregon recognizes companion animals as sentient creatures. We have been indoctrinated and bullied into believing that our loved ones have no value, like a table lamp or chair. Animal advocates know that couldn't be further from the truth. Our companion animals are, in fact, sentient creatures. They have the capacity to feel, to think, to emote and to love just like human beings.

Current Self-Governing Organizations
  • Veterinarians are part of a self-governing organization. They police themselves and, as such, rarely follow "discipline firmly and fairly" but rather a "coddle and protect" approach, which allows serial offending veterinarians to continue to practice and cause mayhem in the lives of unsuspecting pet parents by causing the permanent injury or death of companion animals. Their is a small percentage of veterinarians that are "bad actors" either incompetent, dishonest or both. They fear little, as their malpractice carriers both pay for defense and settlements where considered furniture, in most cases, does not amount to much as a result of their negligence or malpractice.

Change is Necessary
  • We need to change this, whether by stricter oversight, new legislation or a dismantling of vet boards and reforming the process for justice in the profession, action needs to be forthcoming and impactful. Help me accomplish this. I had a vet of ours dismiss us as patients after refusing to have a 3 minute conversation. Our pup had a pacemaker and cancer and was being treated by this vet for many many years. I found out the hard way that there is no accountability with this community.
