Chronic Health & Living Costs For Single Mom

November Updates

I hope this update finds you all well and having had a wonderful Thanksgiving! This time of year is powerful, as we focus our attention on being with those we love and expanding our hearts and minds in gratitude! This year I feel particularly grateful for family and friends who have touched my life through great love and support, as well as for the health that we have and the access to medical care where needed. I am so grateful for time spent with those I love, and even the smallest details in life’s great challenges.

This past month has been a whirlwind as some of the changes we are facing are major, and for those who have followed our journey I appreciate the opportunity to share with you some updates.

Due to intensifying symptoms from medical conditions our family will be moving to Virginia in the coming weeks where we will be closer to family and have a greater support system around us. The combination of physical symptoms, strenuous financial requirements, and medical interventions we are embarking on this journey together with open hearts. This has required a great deal of orchestrating medical supplies, doctors and specialists, organizing our move and more.

My GI specialist at UNC has shared that we have exhausted all of our resources here after much testing and referrals. He is sending me to see doctors in Virginia who specialize in inflammatory bowel as well as complications related to the total colectomy and Jpouch I have undergone. There is unending gratitude for my team here in NC, and their support in this transition.

Though there are multiple challenges and unknown, God has expanded my heart and given me hope for greater healing, restoration, and new beginnings in the months ahead. Leaving where we have resided for years is difficult, and when uncertainty arises He reminds me He is directing our every step. To Him be all glory for His provision and peace in each day as we move forward.

For those who have prayed for our family, sending kindness and encouraging thoughts, we thank you dearly. I have felt them over these past weeks in great ways and we ask that you continue to lift us up, as God directs each detail.

Updates and Thanks!

I want to again thank everyone for all the support that has come in over the last month or more, I speak for myself and my son when I say that our hearts have been touched and forever changed by the kindness shown to our family and the difference that it has made. You have helped us in huge ways including living costs and medical expenses. I simply cannot thank everyone enough, but hope that you know the sincerity of my heart in sharing that with you! 

There have been many moving pieces and changes that have occurred recently. I have had undergone extensive dental w and visits due to reactions to medications used. There will be one more procedure complete the work. It took my mouth some time to recover from the reactions and would gratefully appreciate your prayers for rapid healing and minimal side effects and Gods hand on each detail ! Once completed, I will require equipment to ensure the proper care for this work. 

 My medical team is working to find the most effective treatment options, many of which have increased in frequent with weekly monitoring. Due to some of the medications and treatments this past month, there have been both improvements as well as extensive challenges physically. Please continue to lift up these providers and for inner strength and encouragement in the days ahead. Changes have also included the addition of a cardiologist on my team, observing symptoms more closely via a heart monitor and imaging. 

I am blessed to be able to rest and take the time necessary during this time, that said it has also meant my employer could not preserve my position with these medical requirements, time and intensity of care, terminating my employment. 

These changes have brought additional costs of increased medical treatments, medications, and procedures. I have been working through the implications of these changes, and emotions that accompany these changes has been difficult, but I am encouraged as my team and those around me continue to be an encouragement as I continue forward.

Dear friends and caring individuals, 

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. From birth, I have faced multiple digestive and complex health issues, leading to countless doctor visits, surgeries, and ongoing treatments. Despite being a full-time working single mom, the financial burden of medical expenses, compounded medications, and non-covered treatments has become overwhelming. 

 Recently, my health challenges have forced me to go on disability, and I now require significant dental work as well caused by my health issues. As a single mom far from family, I'm unable to handle these expenses and demands on my own any longer.
