Hi, my name is David (One of #ChucksFriend’s).
I am throwing this fundraiser out into the world to see what we can as a community can do to support and provide a revitalized life to one of the Saint Louis area's most amazing men. Chuck Compton went in for a pretty routine hip surgery a little over a year ago. The surgery went as planned until a blood clot caused a massive stroke and left him partially paralyzed, including loss of movement in his dominant left arm. Through endless rehabilitation efforts and constant work, Chuck has been able to have limited movement in his left leg again but continues to battle and look for ways to be involved in his family's crazy and hectic lives.

Chuck is a family man. As a father to four 'Star' athletes, Chuck was one of the most active men, I have had the pleasure to know. Chuck has one child already in division one baseball, one child excelling in basketball with possibilities in either basketball or baseball, a daughter that recently set records in basketball for her high school and is lights out in volleyball, and his youngest plays for one of the most elite baseball teams in the country. Chuck relied so much on being able to pitch, play ball, catch, be a dad, and to even just hug his friends and family.

He has my vote as a hero as he has served the public his entire life in his daily work before the incident and continues working to serve others. Chuck would drive hours each day just to go to work, and then turn around and drive hours to sports to coach, mentor, and raise kids. The thing that caught my attention, was that he didn't just run through the motions. He took the time to develop relationships with the families and the athletes. Ensuring they knew what would make them successful and showing every person he met, the same enthusiasm and love for sports that he showed his kids.

It is my goal to ensure that we keep Chuck on the path to recovery. He doesn't complain, doesn't gripe about his situation, and doesn't ever let anyone know how difficult things are. That is where we all come in. He shouldn't have to change his work ethic, his attitude, or his outlook. The money is to aid in an electric arm as well as training, and PT and it is all expensive, so he doesn't ask for help, and just keeps on going. Even with the insurance, out-of-pocket expenses are too high.

I am asking the Saint Louis Community to help. Please chip in and provide this man the chance to once again play ball, pick up a glass, write with a pen, and hold his children before they all leave the house. I implore you to dig deep and help out. If you can't spare anything, I get it. Pass on the word to others. As a community, this is a message we can share. This is a goal we can achieve. Thank you so much and I look forward to following up with you on this journey!

Thank you all for your help in spreading this message!

Sincerely,

David
