On Monday July 3rd a fire broke out at the Charleston Residence also known as “Chucktown” in Lake Louise, Alberta. This was home to over 150+ residence who work at the Lake Louise Ski Resort, many whom have left their families and friends behind to start a life in Canada. My names Jorja McDonald and I moved to Canada around 3 months ago but had only been living in chuck for less than a month. I packed up my life in Aus and said goodbye to my friends and family before I went on the adventure of a lifetime. My unit 305 was located on the 3rd floor directly across from where the blaze started. As soon as the fire got into the roof it travelled too quickly for any recovery. I was at work on the ski hill at the time and little did I know I wouldn’t be returning home that day. Along with the materialistic things that can be replaced, I lost the more important things. My passport, credit cards, visa, and every form of documentation that proves who I am. The last few days have felt like hell. You never really know what you have until you don’t have anything but the clothes you wore to work that day. My plan from here is to build back the life I had created for myself, I plan on staying in Canada and continuing on with this crazy adventure. When you’re at rock bottom there is only one way up. The community has been incredible and I am so grateful so be surrounded by so many amazing people in the same boat.Any support is appreciated to get me back on my feet and my adventure continuing ❤️
