Chucky’s Surgery

Donation protected

On Tuesday April 28th 2020 my dear sweet Chucky sadly fell ill. He is a sweet little black kitty I rescued 2 years ago from the SPCA in Victoria.

Chucky was throwing up all over the place and making distressed meows when I tried to pick him up at the start of signs of him not doing well. I decided to take him to the closest vet for an exam. Because he was not himself I sensed this was more than the average hair ball throwing up. Well, my gut instinct was right. The vet concluded that he wasn’t able to identify the problem, but he seemed ok by that point and I could take him home or leave him over night at the vet clinic for a whopping $1800 to run tests etc on top of the $173.95 for the examination fee. I decided to take Chucky home to wait 24hrs first to see if this would pass instead of dropping $2000 that I don’t have.

Unfortunately Chucky didn’t eat for the rest of the night. He did try to eat the next morning, but was sick shortly after. He attempted to eat again much later on that evening and was yet again not keeping anything down and again the following morning. My poor Chucky was not coming out of this mystery illness. This is when the panic really set in.

I had an appointment for him the next day at a more reasonably priced animal hospital, but I didn’t want to make him go through another day of not eating and being sick. It was hard to watch him not feeling like himself.
I ended up rushing him to the clinic that was open 24 hrs and they could see him right away (also less expensive than the initial animal hospital we visited). They suggested leaving him over night that night to put him on an IV and run some tests which would cost $1000, then $100 for every night he stayed after that. I really didn’t have a choice. Chucky was not well, couldn’t keep anything down and was very lethargic.

They ended up keeping Chucky for another 3 nights at $100 a night. During Chucky’s stay at the animal hospital, they ran 2 X-rays that had to be sent into a radiologist to take a closer look to access his situation. Chucky was not improving despite being on fluids and anti-nausea meds.

The radiologist discovered that Chucky had an obstruction in his intestines called “Intussusception”. The food that he had finally eaten (after an appetite stimulant was given to him) was just sitting in him not digesting because of this. As soon as this was confirmed the vet wanted to perform the emergency surgery ASAP at a cost of $1600.

After everything was said and done the total cost of the vet bills have come to $3000.

This is such a difficult time to be having to pay this unexpected expense when I can’t work due to covid and I am not eligible for CERB, and I can barely keep my head above the surface financially.

I’m reaching out to you my dear friends and family if you could help Chucky and I out? No amount is too small. We greatly appreciate your kindness and generosity.

Chucky is my heart I couldn’t bare to see him in such great pain and I had to do whatever it took to help him get to the other side of this. I thought I was going to lose him.

I know we are all experiencing financial upset during this pandemic. I appreciate you reading this far. If unable to help financially, please share this and send healing prayers for Chucky’s speedy recovery. I understand completely.

Keep him in your thoughts.

Much love,

Babs + Chucky ❤️❤️
