Help Alex Fight Brain Cancer

On the 19th of September 2022, the Winters family received MRI results that were absolutely crushing and world-stopping. These results showed evidence of a tumor within seven-year-old Alexander Winters’ brain. Three days later, Alex (left in the picture) underwent three hours of brain surgery and was officially diagnosed with Medulloblastoma. What followed was a long and difficult three weeks as Alex, a fun, loving, big brother and extremely smart kid, struggled to understand why he was going through this. His parents, Nina and Mark, faced the excruciating anxiety of not knowing what was next or what was to come regarding his treatment and prognosis.

On October 7th, Alex was finally released from the hospital, and the Winters family had a plan and path forward. Keeping the absolute very best option as a priority for Alex, Nina and Mark opted to have him receive Proton Radiation treatment away from home in Houston, TX. As I type this, Alex has completed 25 rounds of radiation and has 30 total required. He has completed 5 Chemo sessions but will have nine months of Chemo remaining.

Alexander’s mother, Nina is a Registered Nurse and Father Mark is a Systems Engineer in the IT Health field. Fortunately, due to the nature of Mark’s work he is able to telework remotely. However, Nina has not been able to work since late September of 2022 and has been by Alex’s side every step of the way. Paying rent and utilities in Houston, on one income away from home, while also continuing to pay the monthly mortgage back home has put an enormous strain on the Winters family finances.

This brings me to why I’m here to shed light on their situation. Any help you have within your ability would be greatly appreciated. All funds will go directly to the Winters family and will help them remain financially stable while continuing to fight Alexander’s brain cancer with the remaining radiation and continued chemotherapy over the next nine months.
