Onyx, 6 year old Survivor of random gun violence

Hi. My name is Tiana White and I am at a loss for words, honestly. I never would've imagined that a couple of days after celebrating Onyx’s 6th birthday we would be making a gofund me to support her and her mom through this tragedy. Onyx was shot in her back and now the doctors are reporting that she will never walk again.We are so grateful to have her here with us but she has a very long road to recovery and a life that will look very different on the other side of that recovery. Onyx’s spine has been severed and as much as we don’t want to accept the doctor’s prognosis, we must prepare for the worst.

Onyx was riding in the car with her father and two siblings when their car was struck by unwarranted unprovoked gunfire. Truly innocent bystanders. Onyx does not deserve this. She should not be “glued down” to the hospital bed as she describes it. She should be “flipping and flopping” like the energetic 6 year old that she is. With this new information Onyx’s mom, a registered nurse who has committed to taking care of others cannot work as she now has to provide around the clock care for her baby girl. We want to ensure that her mother is able to be with her as much as possible and being that she is a single mother who works very hard saving lives as a nurse, this will be a tough task for her to take on because she will not be able to be away from Onyx for 12 hours at a time. We want to help support her through this new transition.
