Cian Twomey is an 18 year old leaving cert student from C.B.S Secondary School, Midleton.
Cian is from a small village called Ballinacurra in co cork. He lives with his mother Jennifer and step-dad Jamie Leahy , he has an older brother Evan a twin brother Troy and a younger sister Kelly.
Cian had been a healthy 18 year old upto 8 weeks ago until he started complaining with back pain, within two days of seeing his GP Cian and his mum Jennifer got the devastating news that he had cancer. Over the next few weeks Cian underwent numerous tests and scans to see what time of cancer he had which lead them to be told it was a very rare and aggressive form of cancer called PARAGANGLIOMA .
He has a tumour in the abdomen and also one on the liver. This is such a rare form of cancer that it cannot be treated here in Ireland he will have to travel abroad but they are waiting on a cancer specialist from Rotterdam to see can this hospital facilitate him .
Cian fell unwell on Wed 12th april which resulted in him being admitted to C.U.H hospital where he underwent a blood transfusion on fri 14th followed by more tests which confirmed Cian needed to start chemotherapy straight away as this is a bridge for him while waiting for confirmation from Rotterdam. This treatment will consist of Cian getting radation injections which means he will be isolated for a number of hours after treatment as he will be radioactive.
As you can imagine Cian cannot face this journey on his own so will need to be accompanied by a family member at all times.
Please support Cian and his family on this journey.
