Ciara Barry: Car T- Cell Therapy In U.S

We have set up this Go Fund Me for our sister, Ciara.

After many years of working as a nurse and caring for others, our wonderful life-loving sister Ciara has had to switch roles from being a nurse to being a patient.

Although you wouldn't know it to look at her, Ciara has had three separate battles with Cancer (Hodgkin's Lymphoma) twice as a teenager and then again in her twenties.

Unfortunately, at the young age of 36, due to treatment toxicity from previous chemotherapies, Ciara has now developed a very aggressive blood cancer called treatment -related High Risk Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS).

Ciara has already undergone a year and a half of treatment under the care of her wonderful team in St. James' Hospital, Dublin, but despite all their efforts, her blood cancer did not respond to any treatment and has now progressed significantly. She is now sadly living on borrowed time and has been advised that all that is left to do is enjoy her last remaining months.

Through her sheer determination and drive to keep going and not give up, Ciara has researched international medical trials.

She has been fortunate to have an opportunity to participate in a clinical trial for Car T- Cell Therapy at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida, which she is due to start on June 1st 2022.

While we are so very grateful to have the opportunity to participate in this clinical trial, it will be entirely self-funded. With the exception of the actual Car T-Cell drug infusion, all other treatment needed, including chemotherapy and lengthy hospital stays, will be self-funded. This will be extremely challenging given the cost of medical care in the US. We have been advised that the estimated cost of all the medical treatment could reach above 500,000 euro.

The clinical trial requires a minimum stay of six weeks, presuming everything goes smoothly with no complications.

We never imagined having to ask this of anyone, but unfortunately, we are in this situation.

Ciara is an incredible person. She is a ray of sunshine in every room she enters and she truly is the light of our lives. We are so incredibly grateful for any support you can offer, no matter how big or small.

Should any money from this page be left over after paying medical expenses, Ciara will ensure that the money will go to the wonderful charities and organisations that helped her over the years: Make a Wish Foundation, CanTeen Ireland and St.James Hospital Dublin.
