We are Moulin des Arbres, a French non-profit reforestation association.

What we do:

We collect mostly acorns & some pine seeds, we plant, and restore deforested garrigue!

We are a French non profit. It’s tree-planting association that is reforesting areas in the southwest Mediterranean France. Tree cutting for thousands of years has caused considerable damage to the forests around the Mediterranean. We work on private as well as public lands, but we are always expanding to new areas in the region.

Our team of volunteers collect seeds, grow saplings, prepare the terrain and then continuously maintain the plantations. Throughout the seasons our team consists of 3 to 6 volunteers, more volunteers in the winter planting season. We plant mostly local green oaks and some Aleppo pine trees. These trees survive pretty well despite the weather. A Green oak can last 1500 years.

We believe in the power of community to transfer of skills and knowledge for the purpose of forest preservation.

It is important for us to show how to be a force for good purpose. Offering guidance to passionate volunteers is essential to leave behind something that lasts. We want to help people cultivate a respect and rapport with nature.

Who we are:

Moulin des Arbres was founded by the American artist Eric Lansdown.

We research and experiment to learn about tree planting in this area. Basically, we try to figure out ways, to give the acorns the best chances of becoming big healthy oak trees. After some trial and much error, we have produced some success.

We have established some good ways to improve survival rates, and now the project is growing too!

We want to pass on our knowledge and pay it forward. Our international community shares languages, cultures and stories from around the world, as we learn how to preserve the forest. In many years to come, the landscape may well be totally changed, with trees covering these hills once again.

About Eric's art:

Since 1973, Eric Lansdown has been creating artistic dolls homes and architectural aviaries, inspired by historic architecture. This art and craft funds everything we do at Moulin des Arbres. Eric enjoys teaching the crafts of art to young people. The international volunteers can learn hand-on crafts while making ecological contributions.

Our Thank You details:

250€ donation = bandana + t-shirt

500€ donation = 30 days work-vacation to help with planting trees

This is more serious – You are actually always welcome to come and help us. In fact we use the Workaway platform which is like Woofing if you are familiar with these. Basically we provide room and board for volunteers who generally work 25 hours a week. The work covers a wide range of possible activities depending on the season and what the volunteer wants to learn about.

On the flip side of this level, a donor can arrange to send a strong young adventurous friend or family member for a month in our program.

Alternatively we can arrange a sponsorship or “Adopt a Volunteer” where you can follow a volunteer in communication according to both parties’ preferences starting anonymously of course.
