Students See Magic Because They Look For It...
In August 2017, APA New Jersey was proud and excited to launch a City Planning Summer Institute for middle school and high school students interested in learning more about the city planning profession and how to improve their communities.
The program was started to address two key issues: the general lack of ethnic and racial diversity within the profession and to supplement the civics education in public schools, specifically in urban areas with high poverty rates and disproportional amounts of students on reduced or free lunch.
This summer, we're expanding and two programs will run in Paterson and Newark. The total program cost is roughly $25,000 and we're hoping our members and allied professions will help us raise $5,000 which the Chapter will match. Additional funds are being sought through grants along with public and private investment.
