SUPPORT FUND FOR LOW-PAID STRIKING WORKERS AT CITY, UNIVERSITY OF LONDON
UNISON union members directly employed by City, University of London will be on strike for fair pay on Thursday 31 March and Friday 1 April 2022. UNISON members at City have already taken five days of strike action this year on 21, 22, 28 February and 1, 2 March.
We need your support to provide hardship payments to low-paid striking workers. Please consider showing your solidarity by donating to our strike fund. Every donation, whether large or small, is gratefully received.
What is happening?
City workers are taking strike action to reject the insulting 2021/22 1.5% pay increase imposed by higher education employers. There will be 2 further days of industrial action on 31 March and 1 April following 5 days 21, 22, 28 February and 1, 2 March 2022.
As support staff, we’ve kept our university going during the pandemic, but we’ve received no reward for this hard work and dedication. The 2021/22 1.5% increase came on the back of a pay freeze in 2020/21 and after more than a decade of derisory pay rises, which has seen our pay effectively cut by 20% since 2009. With inflation now running at over 6%, we have had a real terms pay cut.
We will be striking alongside colleagues in City University UCU, who are taking action over pensions and their “four fights” - pay cuts, unsustainable workloads, gender, race and disability pay gaps and casualisation.
City University UNISON is one of nine UNISON branches taking this action around the country and we are asking for your support.
