We have one month to raise the seed money to secure Ida’s Bookshop at her current location for another year while we work on finding and purchasing a permanent location in Collingswood, NJ.
Ida’s is an independent bookshop that celebrates women authors, artists, and activists under the guiding light of Ida B. Wells-Barnett. Besides being a bookshop, this space is a community hub for connection, dialogue, idea sharing, and memory making—from musical performances, to writing sessions, workshops, to info sessions, wedding proposals to story time to hosting authors, artists, and activists, and even a horse, after a three year trial, we believe that Ida’s is good for Collingswood, and Colllingswood is good for Ida’s.
A sister bookshop to Harriett’s in Philadelphia, Josephine’s in Paris, and our many other literary installations— Marian’s, Toni’s, Zora’s, and Alice’s—our network of sister bookshops allow us the autonomy and creativity to serve communities in innovative and impactful ways.
Your investment of time and money is a radical practical act. It says, here “I am willing to put my ideas, resources, and money toward seeing a mission I believe in (whether that’s books, community, writing, storytelling, entrepreneurship, small business, youth engagement, and/own ancestor veneration) thrive and grow and continue outside of convention or business as usual.”
