My name is Alanna and I am Stephanie's sister in law. Stephanie has been fighting severe stomach pain for over three years. She was diagnosed with extreme gastroparesis in November of 2014. Since then, she has gone through multiple surgeries and treatments to try and calm her pain, but nothing has helped.
In July of last year she had a pacemaker put in her stomach to help her stomach pump and possibly allow her to function again. Most of her days are spent in bed on pain medicine and sleeping. During a good week, she is active for about 3 hours once or twice a week.
This fund will be used to help with medical bills as well as aiding in sending Stephanie to St. George, Utah and the Mayo Clinic in Pheonix, Arizona. Even with insurance, medical costs, including things like hospital bills, prescriptions, therapy, pyhiscal and other have exceeded well over $50'000 and will only continue to grow with her appointments in Utah and Arizona. The Mayo Clinic has told us that she would be treated as a outpatient so we will also need to find a place to stay while she is there.
Stephanie has found a support group to help her but several of her friends have passed away from this same disease. We believe there is a way to help her and others but the doctors haven't been able to find it. We are not giving up, we cannot give up.
We would be so much more than grateful for any sort of contribution. During high school Stephanie was a honor student, with a scholarship to Montana State University. Due to her pain she was only able to attend school for two weeks. She then had to withdraw. She tried again with online school in January but by this time she could no longer concentrate on her studies. She had to withdraw again.
Her greatest joy is her family and she has been unable to play with her niece and nephew because of the pain and her pacemaker getting in the way of activities.
Stephanie is the type of young woman who can brighten up a room just being in it. The most painful thing for us is to watch her suffer. She has amazing hopes and dreams and we pray the doctors will be able to find a solution so she can accomplish her dreams. A lot of doctors have written her off. We refuse to believe that but we can't do it alone. If you can help in anyway we would be beyond grateful. We promise that this money will be used for medical uses only. Any money left over, should the dotors be able to help her, wll be donated to Gastrointerology Research at the Mayo Clinic.
