The forgotten scandal
It is shocking to realise that 7 years on from the Grenfell fire tragedy, some apartment blocks still do not have their remedial work costed let alone fixed !
Passing the Buck
Total apathy from Government, the Royal Institution of
Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and The Financial Conduct
(FCA) have all contributed by their inaction to market failure.
Please join our national campaign to highlight serious failings and help us raise funds for legal costs to challenge and change policy and law and fight for compensation.
What has happened for the last 7 years? Why is no-one being held accountable?
Campaigners are now calling for action and intervention in an unprecedented situation.
One campaigner (https://claddingscandal.co.uk/) said…
"This has been an impossible situation to be faced with - The general public understandably think the headlines are the Government and the builders are fixing the problems and the issues have all gone away! Unfortunately, this is not correct." The government have done nothing to protect leaseholders.
They are just hoping it all goes away and take no responsibility for the mess."
The Mortgage Situation
Currently, as it stands lenders still have all the power to repossess flats due to mortgage terms expiring, even when the flats still do not have EWS1 Certificates. ( Building Safety certificates)
One lender, Mortgage Express, has taken leaseholders to court and has sold properties to cash buyers for massive discounts, causing negative equity and financial ruin for many property owners.
What makes this case more appalling is that Mortgage Express was bailed out by the government and became UKAR - So the government owned UKAR is allowed to repossess flats because the owners cannot remortgage or sell without EWS1 certificates - All of which was caused by the governments lack of handling of the issues which they are responsible for sorting.
This is Government sanctioned robbery and must stop
We are demanding change.
The sad reality is the government is not listening
We need money to make our voices heard
The legal system is complex and expensive and we have a lot to do.
Please help and support and tell others who are affected.
Change to the repossession laws and protection for the innocent victims caught up in the ripple effect of the government delays and inaction.
Compensation for devaluing properties by not acting sooner.
When our Campaign contacted the Financial Conduct Authority directly, in April 2024 they advised us that it was a government issue. Making a statement that
‘Resolving the cladding and other fire safety issues is a wider public policy issue, primarily for the Government, rather than one that can be tackled
through our regulation’. ‘However, we do not have evidence that this building safety situation on mortgages constitutes a market failure’
Government ARE AWARE of the serious life-changing problems that homeowners are still facing and are not taking any action to assist. These property owners have become trapped, traumatised, and tormented through no fault of their own, following the cladding disaster.
What do they think happens waiting for 7 years?? -
if the mortgage term expires - the owner cannot remortgage because of no building certificate- cannot sell BUT the lender still has the all the legal powers to repossess the property and sell to cash buyer - total madness.
Negative equity- credit file ruined - no protection -no understanding, no thought to the many individuals affected.
Potential misconduct by Government officials The Financial Conduct Authority and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors have all contributed to market failure !
We have set up a website to support victims and establish a data base. If you have been affected please register on our website, and if you can, tell us your story and we will support each other.
We are aware of other campaigns currently ongoing, each doing all they can to fight this injustice. It started as a crisis and now because of the failings and repercussions it is a scandal. We need to make a landmark case and overturn the status quo without more delay.
On behalf of the many, many, forgotten suffering leaseholders, thank you for reading about our campaign.
Proceeds will be used for individual cases and support any group litigation and the organising of our campaign- the more money raised the more we can help.
We will not stop until changes are made and compensation is paid.
