Help us provide secondary education to 10 Afghan girls

Since August 2021, nearly 4 million girls and women in Afghanistan have been denied their fundamental right to education. Women and girls are not only denied their right to learn and develop intellectually but are also at risk of erasure from public life as they are restricted within the boundaries of their homes and are forbidden from even speaking in public. The commitment to suppressing Afghan girls' and women's autonomy and voice is most effectively achieved through limitations on education, as education lights the pathway to empowerment and resilience. An entire generation of women and girls in Afghanistan may be lost to the darkness of illiteracy, left without tools to advocate for a better future for themselves and for their society. This is a dire crisis for all of Afghan society and for anyone who believes in freedom, equality, and the right to self-determination.

In response, the Alekain Foundation is founded as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit under the leadership of educators, international development professionals, diplomats, academics, and those with extensive experience with Afghanistan and its people. We are entirely focused on creating pathways out of this darkness by supporting Afghan girls and women with access to education, but we cannot do it without your help.

We envision a world where every girl can dream without limits and their aspirations are nurtured and supported through comprehensive educational programs tailored to their needs, hoping to create a more equitable future for them—and society. We are seeking your support for our inaugural cohort, through which we will provide 10 girls with an accredited quality online secondary school education through our partnership with Smart Schools International, a fully accredited online high school. We aspire to enlighten our students' pathways to graduation, earning a diploma, and pursuing their education at the college level and beyond. Smart Schools International is supporting us through tuition waiver scholarships for our inaugural cohort, but we need additional support for such items as laptops, Wi-Fi routers, internet access, shipping, and additional scholarship seats this year or for future years.
