Our Claire

Welcome to our fundraising page for our beautiful friend Claire who was diagnosed with stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer in February.

In our lives, if we are lucky, we get to meet somebody extraordinary, somebody who represents all that we could hope to be in the world. In a world that at times is dark and challenging, Claire shines as a beacon of kindness and compassion. She welcomes everybody and has time for everyone, making each person feel special and important in the world. If you get sick, she'll make you food, if you need a moan, she'll lend an ear and make you a cuppa, if you need a laugh she'll tell you a story, if you need a dance she'll grab her heels and if you feel anything, she feels it too! Claire lives to look after other people and is rarely standing still, yet always finds time to send a note or a message to let you know she is thinking of you. Even her career has enabled her to help other people and be a hub of love and friendship.

Claire is 45, a self-employed hairdresser and a Mum of two teenage boys (and a softie Boxer dog!) and in September last year she married Adriaan, after 7 years, and we could not have been happier for them. While preparing to leave for their honeymoon in December 2023 Claire experienced severe abdominal pain and was admitted to hospital where she stayed for 2 weeks over Christmas, the trip abandoned.

A scan showed a blockage in her pancreas and two stents were put in to help with her symptoms and pain. After numerous appointments, scans and ultrasounds, Claire was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer at the beginning of February. She was then scheduled for a Whipple Procedure on 21st February but only 2 days before the operation, another scan revealed that the cancer had spread to Claire's liver. This devastating news meant that the operation was no longer possible, the only option was to undergo aggressive chemotherapy. Unfortunately the chemotherapy is not a cure, rather it may help to control the cancer and help symptoms.

Despite the setback, Claire faces her diagnosis with incredible courage and determination. She embraces every treatment option with optimism and actively seeks non-conventional therapies to complement her chemotherapy and we are supporting her in researching every possibility for healing.

The cost of complementary treatments such as nutritional therapy, homeopathy, naturopathy, spiritual healing is not covered by the NHS and we would very much like to support her in not leaving any stone unturned in her pursuit to beat the odds. We, her close family and friends have come together to do whatever we can to help and support Claire, Adriaan and the boys, to give them back a little of what she has given to us all. We would like to be able to raise the money so that she does not have to hesitate about booking appointments or trying any complementary approaches due to the financial pressures.

Additionally, your generosity could make it possible for Claire to undergo a potentially life-changing Nanoknife procedure, offering promise in controlling cancer growth. This alone would cost in the region of £18,000.
