Clay for The Northern Rivers

Donation protected
Hi, I’m Trudy Gould.

I am an Architect currently studying a Diploma of Ceramics at Lismore TAFE.

I live in the Northern Rivers 2480

I am fundraising for the Lismore TAFE ceramics community, of which I am a member. Your donation will go directly to the people and institutions who need it, supporting local clay-based businesses and supporting The Northern Rivers' clay community.

As you are aware, the floods of February 2022 have devastated Lismore and its surroundings. The Northern Rivers has a large clay community, and most of the infrastructure that services this community in Lismore is decimated.

Lismore TAFE, one of Australia's most established ceramic schools, was totally inundated, and all the equipment, wheels, kilns, tools and supplies have been destroyed, spoilt and severely damaged.

Students have lost all their supplies and tools, completed work and work in progress. Therefore, they will require our help as soon as the initial cleanup is complete as early as next week. Our leading supplier of all things clay, Northern Rivers Pottery Supplies, is based in Lismore and inundated.

This financial assistance will allow equipment purchases to help them get back on their feet and create ceramics again soon.

The Funds will be spent by:
  • Lismore TAFE students' to facilitate the purchase of lost tools supplies and repair or replace damaged equipment: and
  • Local clay businesses (such as Northern Rivers Pottery Supplies) helping them get up and running again.

Funds will be spent via local businesses such as Northern Rivers Pottery Supplies to double the impact on our local economy. This will happen through gift vouchers given to students to be spent at these businesses.

This allocation will be equitably based on request and need. Your donation will go directly to the people that need it, supporting the clay community in The Northern Rivers.

UPDATE ON PROGRESS

We have now reached our funding goal and closed our application for support for Students, Businesses and Clay practitioners.

We had 23 applications for support and we have allocated funding based on need. This was determined by convening a committee. Four levels of funding need were identified and subsequent allocations reflected this.

As identified in our our Story above, our withdrawal plan for the funds is for all funds to be issued to Jess Hart owner of Northern Rivers Pottery Supplies. Jess will hold the funds in a seperate account where she will allocate credit to each of the 23 applicants allowing them to spend their allocated funds on supplies, tools and equipment etc from Northern Rivers Pottery Supplies. Pricing for these good will be at market rates.

Many of you know Jess as a key member of our clay community. We are not related to Jess personally but believe she is key to holding our community together by providing the equipment and supplies we need which would otherwise take a 3hr min round trip to source.

We have identified that this model allows a double impact model where we are able to help the main supplier of all things Ceramic stay solvent and operate, as well as provide support to  individual students, businesses and Clay practitioners through  supplies tools and equipment.
