Clean up Nepal Earthquake Fund

THE SITUATION
My name is Neelam Pradhananga from Nepal and I was in Patan on 25th April 2015 when the 7.9 Magnitude earthquake struck. Those few minutes have changed the lives of many people in my country for the worse.
Literally millions of Nepalis remain stranded without critical medical intervention and the simplest things, including temporary shelter, water, food or even a hole-in-the-ground toilet. And unfortunately this need will remain for some time to come.
The situation is especially bleak in remote areas such as Sindhupalchowk, Gorkha, Rasuwa and Nuwakot, where most homes have been completely flattened by the earthquake and key access routes damaged.
The critical focus at the moment must be to save those still alive by getting basics out to them. Many of them have lost their loved ones and all their belongings, are still without food, clean water and protective clothing, and are sleeping in the rain.
WHO ARE WE?
I set up a small locally volunteer-operated not-for-profit called Clean up Nepal in 2013 to support communities to clean up their neighbourhoods and to work with them to gradually develop a waste management system that works for them. Through this organisation, I know how to work with the community and mobilise volunteers quickly to address issues on the ground.
I moved from Sydney to Kathmandu in October 2014 to strengthen Clean up Nepal. I would like to utilise the fact that I am based in Kathmandu at present to provide rapid relief to my fellow people. We have a team of dedicated volunteers who are already helping on the ground.
Since the earthquake, hundreds of our volunteers have selflessly worked to clean up ‘tent-cities’ in the Kathmandu valley to prevent the spread of communicable diseases.
We have also mobilised resources to support the people of Sindhupalchowk and Bhaktapur. We have also been undertaking detailed assessments to understand needs better and to work closely with other local NGOs who are working in these areas.
We are also working towards procuring water purifying tablets in large quantities from local supply chains in Nepal and India to distribute through local NGOs and other volunteers on the ground. This will curb outbreaks of diseases such as cholera or Hepatitis A. So far, we have managed to procure 100,000 water purifying tablets and will be distributing to the worst affected areas when they arrive.
HOW TO HELP?
Please give with your heart. We have worked out that NRs 75 (less than $1 USD) is all that is needed to provide daily shelter, clean drinking water and food for one person.
Transparency and accountability is of utmost importance to us. We have set up and shared a Google document on our website where all income and expenditure will be regularly updated for the relief efforts.
