HOME-START GREENWICH
HomeStart Greenwich has been working in partnership with organisations such as Feeding Britain and FareShare to provide emergency food provision to vulnerable families during the Covid-19 pandemic. The current crisis has already affected thousands of children, leaving many of them at great risk of hunger and malnutrition due to factors such as:
- Their parents/carers being financially affected
- Nil recourse to funds/low-income families not being able to purchase sufficient amounts of food or access food banks due to closures.
- No longer having access to free school meals
Due to limited resources and reduced staffing, a lot of the local initiatives are only able to provide cold meals or food vouchers to the families in need. A new partnership with local caterers (First Choice Caribbean Hut Lunches), has enabled Home-Start Greenwich to provide cooked meals to some of the most vulnerable families in their local community. Carib-hub has put together a varied menu, with nutritionally balanced cooked meals, which will come with basic heating instructions.
From 31st March they will be distributing 120 meals every week via their Brookhill and Plumstead Children's Centres, whilst co-ordinating a team of volunteers to deliver to families self-isolating or unable to collect safely.
Their current funding will only allow Home-Start Greenwich to provide this service for a maximum of 7 weeks. More funding is needed urgently to ensure that this emergency provision can continue to run for the duration of the crisis and for some time after to help families get back on their feet.
Each meal per child costs £3.50 and any donation would be gratefully received.
Thank you in advance for your help,
Wishing everyone health and wellness!
