Cliff Browne - Brian McDowell Scholarship Fund

Donation protected
This memorial scholarship is being set up to remember Cliff Browne and Brian McDowell. Cliff is the son of Anne Bolen and Cliff Browne Sr. and brother to John Bolen. He was born in St. Louis and spent most of his life in Findlay, OH where he developed a love of sports, most specifically hockey.

He played hockey for Findlay High School and learned to become a very successful referee. He was an avid St Louis Blues fan and a season ticket holder of the Columbus Blue Jackets since the inception of the team. He went on to attend Miami University where he became a Kappa Sigma.

Brian is the son of Ken and Carol McDowell and the brother to Kevin McDowell. He was born and raised in Harrison, OH. Brian played football for Harrison High growing up. Brian, like Cliff, was an avid sports fan and a lover of everything Cincinnati. He bled for his Bengals and Reds. Brian and Cliff were season ticket holders of the Cincinanti Bengals for several years together. Brian also went on to attend Miami University and became a Kappa Sigma. That is where their friendhship started.

It was at Miami where Cliff and Brian used their unique skills of developing relationships to build a second "family" among the members of Kappa Sigma. Cliff and Brian had a talent of connecting deeply with every person that they encountered. Many of us go through life and are lucky enough to call one person their best friend, but I can tell you many people would consider Cliff and Brian their best friend.

Cliff lived in the fraternity house for three years and Brian for two. They held several positions on the executive committee and shared duty of pledge educator. They helped lead Kappa Sigma to one of the premier houses on campus. They exemplified what it meant to be a brother. They were loyal to themselves, their friends and the fraternity. They held themselves to a high standard and expected others to do the same.

This memorial scholarship will be given to one Kappa Sigma from the Theta Upsilon chapter at Miami University who models what Cliff and Brian stood for, being a great brother. This scholarship will be issued near the end of the school year to be used the following semester for tuition, KE dues or rent to live in the KE chapter house. The recipient will be decided upon through an application process and then voted on by a small committee consisting of family, friends and brothers of Kappa Sigma.
