Wrongly convicted

Donation protected
This campaign is to benefit Clifton Spencer of Columbia, NC.  Mr. Spencer was convicted of the murder of Stacey Stanton in February of 1990 despite an alarming amount of evidence pointing to his innocence.  The case is featured in Season Two of the CounterClock Podcast .  The CounterClock Team has done a fantastic job in researching and organizing the facts and evidence in this case and creates a deep level of understanding of  the miscarriage of justice that led him to accept a plea deal to avoid the potential trauma to his mother of a death penalty being imposed.  The plea resulted in Mr. Spencer spending 18 years in the North Carolina Prison System. The Innocence Project stepped in and was able to fight for Clifton's release in July 2007.  Currently Cliff works as an interstate truck driver.  I am also a truck driver that crossed paths with Cliff as a student driver.  In the end he taught me everything I know about trucking and helped me to carve out a place within the labor market for myself.  I now have both a stable income and a wonderful friendship with a man who taught me things like the importance of saying a prayer prior to each trip, not only for myself but for the safety of the lives in the vehicles that you encounter through the journey. We began each shift in our seats with that prayer.  To this day I continue that practice and he and I are the best of friends.  I started this gofundme because if anybody deserves a helping hand in achieving their goals it is Cliff. There is no soul more worthy than him.  I am asking everyone that can hear me to please listen to his story, learn about this man, and join me in sending him a very special gift.  Cliff spends almost all of his time on the highway driving freight from one place to the next in a corporately owned truck.  He is not paid the most or the least in the industry but he trudges along year after year. The truck he is driving now has over a half a million miles on it and is a basic style Freightliner Cascadia that needs to be replaced. He has always hoped to buy himself a Kenworth T680 with a studio sleeper and a 13 speed transmission.  His mother has a tradition of blessing and christening his company trucks when he comes home.  She blessed his current truck and named it Gabriel.   To a driver, our truck is not only our job it is our home. It is our safe space. I think he deserves the opportunity to drive his dream truck. Let's make it happen for him. Thank you!  (Tahana)
