Climate Action: Planting Maize for our future
Tax deductible
The future is in our hands and we can act today, making a difference for the next seven generations and beyond? Positive climate action is something we can all be a part of by supporting, donating and sharing about the work of the Mandaamin Institute.
Mandaamin Institute nitrogen efficient maize can reduce the use of nitrogen fertilizer by up to 50% resulting in drastic cuts in greenhouse gases and groundwater pollution which has poisoned the Mississippi River and created a nitrogen induced hypoxia dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico between 6,000 and 7,000 square miles. Nitrogen efficient maize can reduce the 3rd most prolific and hardest to remediate greenhouse gas called nitrous oxide which is released into the atmosphere on a global scale as commercial corn is planted.
I'm raising money to benefit the Mandaamin Institute's efforts. Any donation will help make an impact. Please watch the introduction video to the end. Our efforts to bring these aMaizing, pun intended, benefits of these world changing maize varieties to the masses is a critical step in securing our children's and grandchildren's future.
Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me. Your donations will help us expand our research, development, educational, consulting and production initiatives. Our immediate needs are to fund the hiring of staff, infrastructure such and warehousing and machinery, and expanding our partner network to grow more maize that is good for the planet, and the people and animals who eat it. At the Mandaamin Institute we are:
- Developing maize varieties that are extremely efficient at obtaining nitrogen and other nutrients from the soil and the air. This nitrogen efficiency comes from a partnership between the maize and endophytic bacteria. Elimination of nitrogen fertilizer in the largest produced crop globally, a major contributor to greenhouse gas and groundwater pollution, can change the world.
- Developing maize with enhanced protein quality, 15-40% higher methionine, proteins and amino acids, and 23-47% higher Carotenoids, that provides superior nutrition to the people and animals that eat it.
- Breeding corn varieties that avoid contamination from transgenic (GMO) corn because they utilize natural ‘gametophytic incompatibility’ genes.
