Climbing for a Cause
Later this month, Nathan Benoit and I will attempt a 40-Mile backpack through Los Padres Forest. Our path will take us to the top of Cone Peak and throughout the surrounding trail network. It is a difficult trek but worth it to benefit an amazing organization.
You may ask why we might do such a thing?
1. I think the best way to bring about change is to act. We all have different skill sets and endurance and a willingness to attempt physical feats one of mine (Franco). Fortunately, Nathan is very gifted in Outdoor Sports, wants to help an important cause, and is willing to help a novice like me tackle a long trek.
2. We are raising money for the Community Partnership for Youth (CPY). This organization is vital to youth in the Seaside Community and given everything that is happening in our world, we really need to focus on doing better for our future generations in a time of uncertainty.
CPY is an amazing organization based in our hometown of Seaside, California. They are a prevention program providing positive alternatives to gangs, drugs, and violence while reinforcing individual strengths.
Their vision is to provide our youth with a safe, structured environment that encourages healthy boundaries, positive self-esteem and the ability to make good choices for a full and successful life. Their efforts in my community make it possible for individuals like me to succeed and go on to accomplish great things.
So we are asking you to donate some money to support us in our efforts to help my community. If you are feeling especially brazen, you could donate to match the number of miles you think we will actually complete.
We will keep the blog updated as we progress towards the goal! Seeing as we are doing this to charity and, therefore not above pandering, let me also point out that not only did I serve as a firefighter in Maine but I am also a veteran of the United States Army.
Thank you everyone!
