Climbing Kilimanjaro, Charity: Save the Children - Tanzania
Donation protected
My name is Louis Mathis and alongside my brother Olivier and friend Donny from Canada - we will be climbing Kilimanjaro, leaving London for Africa on January 1st.
This has been a personal goal of ours for a while, being inspired after climbing Everest Base Camp, Summating Kalapatthar and doing the Annapurna Circuit. I’m an avid hiker with a deep passion for extreme hiking challenges, pushing myself to the limits of endurance while exploring the world’s most rugged terrains. My love for the great outdoors has taught me the importance of resilience, grit, and the power of community. But for me, hiking isn’t just about the journey—it’s about using my adventures to give back.
Through every steep climb and every challenging path, I aim to raise funds and awareness for local poor communities in need.
I believe that just as we conquer the toughest trails, we can also help others overcome the hardships they face every day. The funds I raise will directly support local initiatives, from providing basic necessities to empowering people with education and skills for a better future.
Join me on this journey as I challenge myself on the most extreme hikes, and together, let’s make a meaningful difference for those who need it most.
While Tanzania recognizes child rights and has made important progress, children continue to suffer shocking levels of child mortality, malnutrition, lack of education and early marriage. Tanzania’s children need your help.
We have chosen to work with Save the Children Tanzania.
1 child in 19 dies before their 5th birthday, 8 times the U.S. rate
32% of children suffer from stunting due to malnutrition
40% of children are out of school, with 24% engaged in child labor, instead of learning
22% of girls (ages 15-19) are married, and 1 in 8 gives birth – with 27% of girls (ages 15+) struggling to read and write
23% of people live in poverty
How we help: we were able to change the lives of over 853,000 children in Tanzania last year.
Save the Children began working in Tanzania in 1986. Today, we are a leading charity for children across the country.
We help children in Tanzania by working closely with communities at the local level and advocating for change at the national level. Through programs in child survival, maternal and child health and nutrition, education, food security and livelihoods, child protection and emergency response, we’re working to ensure Tanzania’s children not only survive, but thrive
