Fleeing Domestic Violence

I organize this on behalf of a dear friend who is in need of support at this difficult time. Please read her story below and consider helping a great friend and, more importantly, a great mother.

For 10 years I stayed in an abusive relationship.

I experienced emotional and physical abuse on a consistent basis. I stayed because like my mother before me I grew up in a household where domestic violence was pervasive. I stayed because I thought wrongly that this was the right thing for my children. I didn't think I would have the money/ support to live independently and I stayed because on the surface the man I was with seemed perfect.

Publicly he is regarded as an outstanding accomplished politician surrounded by influential people . He promised to use his political connections to silence me and ruin my life if I ever left. I finally did. I left with almost nothing but my two children and have started to rebuild my life. After almost a year of leaving him the trauma and abuse has continued but in a different way.

Since losing control he has concentrated his efforts on making my life as difficult as possible. Including stealing my Identification (Birth certificate, passport, and social security cards) I haven’t received any financial support and recently racked up legal fees against his efforts to circumvent child support. In addition to leaving with nothing and taking care of two young kids, one of which has special needs I recently had to take out an order of protection against him because he began stalking me and threatened to kill me.

I am asking for help to cover my legal expenses and support my expenses for this month after getting behind.
