Christy Moore Memorial Scholarship

Like all of you reading this, we are heartbroken by the loss of our dear friend and teammate, Christy.  Tonganoxie is small Midwestern town, and though the years may separate us, we are still a team, still friends, and forever part of a community that will always come together to support our own.

But that’s the thing – Christy wasn’t “our own.”  Christy belonged to everyone she met.  She gave her all to everything she did – be it a friendship, a softball team, her career, her family.  Christy was the kind of girl that you wanted on your side, and for us, on our team.

Many, if not all of our memories playing sports in our small town, from elementary school all the way through high school include Christy. She was the glue that held our team together, always scooping up a bad throw, our go-to hitter and someone to lift spirits when we were behind. Christy was a leader on and off the field, but she was a friend, always.

She was the class of 1996 Senior Class President, and it’s no surprise that Christy thrived beyond high school as well. After graduating from KU, she was still always looking for her next big adventure.  Her circle of friends continued to grow – how could it not?  She lit up every room she entered and was all heart. She was proud to be from Tongie, and a proud alum of The University of Kansas - and loved to cheer on her Jayhawks every opportunity she had. And the Royals?  They won the World Series for her this year! 

As a group of her former teammates and childhood friends, we are asking you to help Christy’s spirit live on by supporting and helping to fund a scholarship at Tonganoxie High School.

We’d love to be able to give someone in the class of 2016 who exemplifies Christy’s heart, love for life, personal drive and ambition the opportunity to start his or her own adventure.  The Moore Family and her friends thank you for your support.
