Charell Star's CASA-NYC Fundraiser

Thank you to everyone for all the kind words of support and outpouring of love. I am overwhelmed with gratitude and want to share this love with as many foster care youths as I can. One of the hardest parts of being in foster care is feeling that you’re alone and that no one cares about the pain you’re going through. It wasn’t until I was out of foster care and began advocating that I realized this could not be further from the truth. There are incredible people fighting for, speaking for, standing with, and empowering foster care youth every single day.

One organization filled with these amazing people is CASA-NYC. CASA-NYC pairs children and youth in care with volunteers who ensure that their needs are met and that they don’t fall through the cracks. These advocates speak up for youth when they can't or don't know how to speak up for themselves. I wasn't lucky enough to have a CASA when I was a child, but I want to make sure other youth in care do.
