Dear Friends,
We have exciting news - Edward and Amanda have been able to purchase a piece of land, so now they can start building!!! This is so exciting. So we are doing our final push for funds before sending them to Edward and Amanda
Edward and Amanda Phumo are South Africans. They have one daughter “Oreabetse” – which means “Given by God”. They live in the North of South Africa in a city called Middelburg. For the past 10 years they have been trying to get some land. They would like to build a home for the family.
The South African government has a housing assistance department that helps people own a house. Every time they go to the local municipality they tell them they earn too much to qualify for government house but they earn too little to purchase land from them. So they are turned away.
They are both hard workers and have been saving monthly and have sold their car to try and purchase land. They are currently bring home close to $12 000 a year. $2900 of that goes to renting a house the size we are hoping to build. Every year the price goes up. They are in no way looking for a free hand out. The idea to fundraize came from me.
I believe we can change this for them. For $5000 they can build a 5 Yards (15ft) x 6 Yards (18ft) home. I would like to see what we can raise. If we raise a little more perhaps they can build a slightly bigger place?
I have personally known Edward since 1996 as we went to the same church. Please would you consider giving to help this family get their own home. No amount is too small!
So far we have collected $2500 total (Cash donations and donations on this site)
