Charlie's story in The Sun newspaper: https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/24701495/pet-cockatoo-held-heathrow-blunder-heartbreaking-cries/
Hi, my name is Joe.
My wife Jess and I are reaching out to you today with a plea for help and support in a situation that has unexpectedly stretched our financial resources to their absolute limits.
Recently, I had the immense joy of adopting a beautiful Cockatoo named Charlie from America when my wife made the arduous move from Pennsylvania to a little town called Loughborough. Little Charlie is an integral part of my wife's daily routine, bringing immeasurable joy and companionship. However, the journey to bring him from Jess' uncle's home (his temporary residence during the move) to England was more emotionally and financially challenging than we ever could have anticipated.
Since Nov 2022 we had been in a battle with various governing bodies regarding his travel. Then, in August 2023 we got the OK to bring him home! Our joy was quickly quashed when he was seized by HMRC Border Force over a document having gone missing in transit. We couldn't believe it. Since then, Charlie has been languishing in a Heathrow reception facility, calling for his mummy every day.
To ensure Charlie arrived safely and comfortably, I had to cover the significant cost of shipping from America to England, amounting to roughly £6000. Additionally, due to the complexities of international pet travel, I found myself needing to stay in a motel for two weeks to coordinate Charlie's arrival and ensure a smooth transition.
The love and connection shared with Charlie make every penny spent worthwhile, but we are now facing a financial burden that we hadn't foreseen. This is why we are reaching out to humbly request your support.
Your contribution, no matter how small, will go a long way in helping us recoup the expenses incurred during this process. We understand that times are tough for everyone, and any assistance you can provide is immensely appreciated. If you can contribute, that's awesome. If not, we totally understand!
Your generosity will not only help alleviate the financial strain but also ensure that as soon as Charlie is released, he continues to receive the love and endless toys that he rightly deserves, every penny going right back into his daily care.
Thank you for taking the time to read our plea. Your support means the world to my wife, myself, and especially to Charlie bird.

EDIT: As of mid-November, Charlie is home!
