Coach Billy Smith

Billy Smith, a football coach (Defensive Coordinator) and teacher at Lake Ridge High School, has been a pillar of the Mansfield community since 2004. His life calling has been to support, educate and love the students in MISD.  Now it is our turn to give back.

In the fall of 2016, Coach Smith was diagnosed with thyroid cancer.  Normally thyroid cancer is one of the most curable cancers, but nothing about this journey has been normal.  Following his first surgery, the cancer returned. The family made the tough decision to seek treatment at MD Anderson in Houston.  The surgeon was able to remove the detectable cancer but unfortunately, the cancer returned again and mutated. On January 2, 2019, Billy underwent a 13-hour surgery to remove the cancer.  In addition to immunotherapy, he now must undergo radiation 5 days a week for 6 weeks. Insurance is helping but does not cover the cost of temporary housing, transportation and other out of pocket expenses including several medications.

Coach Smith and his family (wife Deanna and children B.J, Bronsyn, Bailee, and Benjamin) should be able to focus on healing and recovery and not the financial issues surrounding this devastating illness.  Please help us financially support the Smith family.
