  • Hi, my name is Kevin Monaco and on behalf of dozens of baseball families in the greater Los Angeles area, we're asking for your help for our beloved baseball coach Eli Delgado. Despite being only 40 years old, Eli with his brothers, Kelvin and Sylvio, have become the cream of the crop as it pertains to developing youth baseball players. With an easy going manner, a commitment to the game and the confidence of growing up in the baseball development world in his native Nicaragua, Eli seemingly had it all going for him. He and his brothers count Division 1 baseball players as clients, many of whom play for Stanford, UCLA, USC and other elite programs throughout the country.  They coach some of the best high school baseball players in Southern California at DNA Academy and other competitive high schools. Eli and his brother, Kelvin also coach our boys, some of the most dedicated 12 year old youth baseball players in the greater Los Angeles area, and they love him.
  • Sadly, this past week Eli received some devastating news. While visiting his doctor because of knee pain, doctors had to do an emergency fasciotomy on his left leg due to complications from Eli's type 2 diabetes. He had developed a hematoma that led to compartment syndrome which prompted the surgery to occur the same day. Earlier that day, he had been coaching my son and explained simply that his knee was bothering him and he was going to the doctor to see what could be done about the nagging pain.
  • During surgery he had complications with his kidneys that led to a very bleak Father's Day (Eli has 2 sons Rashaad, 16 and Brendan, 8). He was hemorrhaging blood and vomiting and had to have his stomach pumped to remove the balance of the blood. Doctors found holes in his esophagus and liver and he underwent an endoscopic procedure to seal the holes. While almost losing his entire left leg, Eli will now have to meet with surgeons every week to monitor his scars and healing. Eli will also need to get an endoscopy and blood transfusion every 8 weeks for the foreseeable future. Meanwhile, he is at home healing while his family cares for him.
  • We are asking for any amount of donation for our friend and coach Eli Delgado. He has MediCal insurance but the bills will add up. In addition, he has no way to currently earn a living as a baseball coach while he recovers.  Eli and his brothers are a proud group of hard working men.  It wasn't an easy ask for him to allow us to organize this GFM.  Donations made to this fundraiser will be used to cover living expenses, doctor bills and medication expenses. I will post updates when there is pertinent news to share. His baseball family will continue to be supportive throughout his recovery. We truly appreciate your consideration for Eli and the Delgado family.
  • Cinco Estrella's forever together.
