Coach Gregory Brooks Sr Building Fund

This Gofundme has been created to honor the wishes of the recently late GREAT Coach Gregory Brooks Sr.

In 1979, Coach Brooks and his wife purchased a run down fixer up six flat building for their newly expanding family. He was always insistent about ownership versus renting, whether that be his residence or his vehicles in which he always purchased new. 

Upon moving in, the building needed major work. There were holes in the floors and walls, rundown porches, peeling paint, etc. Since he and his wife were both teachers, it allowed them to have summers off. He bought a Time Life Home Repair book series and learned how to renovate his building with his bare hands, along with the help of his wife, parents and numerous friends/family members even putting his children to work once they were of age for learning or punishment. LOL… They took each apartment and rehabilitated them one at a time until they all were completed in the early 90s.

Since then several companies, real estate groups, etc have either tried legally or illegally to acquire this property from him but have been unsuccessful due to his resilience to keeping ownership even after rough times. 

Over the years, this building has been a safe haven for many family members, friends and even his athletes. One apartment was jokingly nicknamed “Peasant Flats” where it was dedicated to housing his athletes/students that have needed his help over the years. He and his wife even legally adopted several of them.

In his later days, his wishes were to rehabilitate the property again updating it to present times but his Parkinson’s disease quickly progressed which hindered him in doing so along with his sudden death. 

In lieu of flowers, gifts etc we are asking that you donate to the Coach Brooks Building Fund. All proceeds generated will be used for the restoration and rehabilitation of his prized acquisition.
