Coach Hans

First, we want to thank everyone for the generous contributions to support Hans. Over 300 people contributed to the fundraiser raising almost $30,000 – FANTASTIC!!! Well, that’s the great news. The unfortunate news is that Hans is in the hospital again for his 4th stay in one month. Although they believe they removed all of the cancerous tumors, he continues to have swelling on the brain which impacts his cognitive and mobility skills. Until this is resolved he is going to need significantly more skilled home care than we anticipated. We are asking 3 things:

1. Remember how much love, time, and inspiration Hans has contributed to you, your family, and your friends over the years through fundraising, inspiration, and time. Over the years Hans has raised 100’s of thousands of dollars helping others. It’s time to give back.

2. Make another contribution to help Hans through this difficult time

Hans has spent his lifetime doing selfless acts for others. Now is the time for his students, parents, players, and friends to reciprocate so we can get him the care that he needs as he recovers.

As most of you are aware, Hans had kidney cancer in 2018. After surgery, chemo, and radiation, he has been in remission for the past four years. On October 17, he realized something was wrong with his motor skills. Unfortunately, the tests at Stanford Hospital showed his cancer had metastasized to his brain. The doctors have determined the best treatment would be a new type of focused radiation. This treatment will begin on Monday, November 14.

Because Hans will need extensive and expensive care over the extended treatment period, we are opening GoFundMe. Coach Hans has helped and supported us throughout the years, so we invite you to support him through journal entries on CaringBridge and donations on GoFundMe as he begins his battle with cancer.
