Miracles do happen, and Matt is evidence of God's glorious work.

Matt overcame the Septic Shock and is battling once again.  He has now been diagnosed with Amyloidosis, and Multiple Myeloma.  Matt has moved to MD Anderson in Houston to continue the fight.

Please help Matt and Sharon with Matt's mounting medical expenses, as he undergoes chemo treatment and continued rehabilitation as the result of the Septic Shock.

Here is more information from Sharon as of 5March.
The particular cancer Matt has (Multiple Myeloma) appears to be in the earliest of 3 stages, known as "Smoldering Myeloma" stage - normally this would not even necessarily be treated, just monitored every 6 months - but, in Matt's case, a particular disease has developed in conjunction with the cancer, called Amyloidosis. Labs have indicated that this disease, specifically, amyloid proteins, have invaded his heart. Once these invade any organ, they are extremely difficult, if not impossible, to remove. Because of this coordinating disease, and especially because of the fact that it has invaded his heart (and possibly kidneys and
liver), he has begun a 4 month protocol of therapy, which includes a combination of chemo and steroids. These treatments are considered outpatient because they amount to two pills by mouth (chemo) and a small subcutaneous injection (steroid) once a week. The goal with this treatment is primarily to prevent any other production of amyloid proteins from forming and especially from further invading and injuring organs.

History of the battle....Dec-Feb.
Matt has been in ICU at St. David's since the week of 12Dec. He is being treated for Septic Shock, which has included being on a ventilator, feeding tube and dialysis for weeks. As of Tuesday, 3Jan, the Doctor removed the ventilator tube as Matt is doing a better job breathing on his own. He is not swallowing well enough to go without a feeding tube so, he will undergo a surgery on 9Jan to move the tube to his stomach. The plan is to move him to an acute rehabilitation facility in the upcoming week so he can continue his recovery for several more weeks, maybe months.

Sharon has been staying by Matt's bedside the entire time. Although Sharon has stayed most nights with Matt, she has a hotel room to go to for rest and get refreshed. Ben and Whitney are traveling to Austin from out of town, to be with Matt at the hospital and support Sharon.. Travel expenses are mounting for Ben and Whitney and their young families, and we would like to help elevate some of the burden. Matt and Sharon's expenses will continue to mount as Matt's therapy continues in Austin. We would like to collect donations to help Matt and his family with these expenses. As he moves from this difficult time toward a full recovery, we ask for your generosity, your prayers and good wishes.

Please help spread the word.
