Coach Ron Kamaka Memorial Fund
Donation protected
On Sunday, March 6th, Coach Ron Kamaka lost his battle with Covid.
Ron was a son, brother, uncle, friend, mentor, coach, professor, husband, father and grandfather.
He was an inspiration to us all. Ron was a terrific athlete and was a member of the U.S. National Junior Team for Track and Field, specializing in High Jump. After his time with the U.S. National Junior Team, Ron felt the call to focus his career in education, and he began teaching and coaching at the Elementary school level in Hawaii. Ron was a devout Christian that lived as an example of love, friendship, and compassion.
After surviving a body-surfing accident in 1990 that left him a Quadriplegic, Ron rehabilitated and began coaching and teaching in Southern California. Next, he transitioned to a volunteer opportunity at Woodbridge high school and then moved to Cal State Fullerton. Ron pursued his Master's Degree after a long day of coaching while at Cal State Fullerton. Ron saw the opportunity and accepted a position at Mt. Sac College. Ron thrived in all his coaching positions, and he cherished the opportunity to mentor his student-athletes.
Due to his injury, Ron would often be up at 4 am to make his early classes or practice. In addition, he was often up on the phone with his colleagues or his student-athletes till late at night. Ron's work ethic was an inspiration to us all.
His family and the thousands of student-athletes he coached and mentored over his 35-year career will
miss him.
Coach Ron was in the hospital with complications from Covid from early January till losing his battle on March 6th.
We would appreciate any support that those touched by Coach could provide in helping with both his final medical expenses and his memorial.
