Coach Sheldon Guy has been volunteering with girls and boys sports for over two decades. This volunteer is always known for taking coal and turning into gold with different sport experiences, awards, outings, bondings activities and more. He aspires to make all his players feel valued, respected and that they have a voice. Tragedy struck suddenly at the beginning of December 2021. Without warning or symptoms Coach Sheldon was left with a daunting task, a choice to live or to pivot. He chose to persevere and return to coaching, all while struggling on how to relearn everything with no sight.
Here are some direct quotes from athletes he has impacted throughout this process:

“I’ve known Coach Sheldon for three years and he has taught me so much. He has made me a better basketball player; He is my biggest role model and I truly look up to him. He has taught me no matter what your going through to persevere and following your dreams, you can do anything you put your mind to. Coach Sheldon has always believed in me and pushed me to be the very best I can. He’s the best coach I have ever had and has truly made an impact on me. I will forever be grateful for him”.

“I have been coached by Coach Sheldon for about three years now. Before he lost his sight he was a great coach at teaching the basics of basketball, he helped me get better! After he lost his sight he persevered greatly so he could still coach us. I think he is such a strong person and has taught me to push through anything that comes your way”.

Coach Sheldon has been diagnosed with “Anterior ischemic optic neuropathy”. He was told there was nothing doctors in BC, Canada could do. Coach Sheldon didn’t take no for an answer, he worked with natural paths and consistency. After all the efforts Coach Sheldon was approved for medical treatment for the upcoming September 2023. Unfortunately the cost of the treatment is $30,000 which has pushed him back a few steps to get to Germany. He has touched so many and this an opportunity to give back to Coach Sheldon.
To all readers and donators, “Thank you from the bottom of my heart for trying to help me see again”. - Coach Sheldon Guy
