Update: there was one fracture found on his left side. He is still at Grand Canyon vet under the care of Dr Shaw and team.

Coal is eating. We are waiting and watching to see if his jaw is healing in place. 8 days later and he’s recovering.

Hi. A Christmas night scrap caused dislocated lower jaw in Coal. X-rays showed no fractures but we discovered someone had tried to kill him. I live in Tioga county PA and rescue strays. Often I end up with some of the difficult medical cases because our fantastic rescues are tapped out. Coal (long haired black boy) I trapped as a 8 week old kitten along with his sister Ivy. After cleaning his eyes I discovered an ulcer on his eye. The eye ruptured and because he was small we fostered until he was a month older and weighed more before removing it. His eye lids in a rare occurrence wrapped around the eye as it healed, encapsulating it, so he ended up keeping it and was neutered & vaccinated. That was in in 2019.

Coal was in a scrap with our foster dog Christmas Day and experienced a dislocated mandible. (Lower jaw) and after X-rays it was discovered he had a pellet in his head. The trajectory of the bullet was from under his chin and up into his head. Someone tried to kill him at some point in his life and he survived that without us knowing of the injury.

Coal is currently being treated at Grand Canyon Veterinary clinic in Wellsboro PA. The cost estimate is at least $800. Anything you can help me with for him would improve his life tremendously.
