Cobourg Outdoor Exercise Gym

In Memorium of our recently late mother, Hilda Bryan-Seet, Jonathan, Bryan & Bruce are asking for your generous donation to this project our mother had been working on in her hometown of Cobourg.

What is this?

This is a community-led, grass-roots initiative to install a new Outdoor Fitness Park in Cobourg, Ontario, Canada. The goal is to promote health and well-being for the community, primarily for seniors but including adults and teenagers by providing free, public access to outdoor fitness equipment. We would like to see this equipment installed close to the boardwalk and water west of the marina. We are currently working with the Town of Cobourg gathering support in the community for this initiative and support.

Why is this important?

During the latter half of Hilda’s career as a gerontological nurse at Streamway Villa in Cobourg, she was acutely attuned the need for physical activity in the senior population - something that is often inaccessible or even completely lacking. Regular physical activity in senior citizens brings a multitude of benefits, including improved cardiovascular health, enhanced muscular strength and flexibility, better bone density, weight management, and reduced risk of obesity. Engaging in exercise contributes to improved mental health, promoting mood stability, stress management, and cognitive function. It fosters social engagement through group activities, maintains joint health, and supports better sleep quality. Additionally, physical activity aids in the management and prevention of chronic diseases, boosts the immune system, and is associated with increased lifespan. And the healthier our population is in general, the lower the cost of healthcare.

The availability of suitable facilities is a major hurdle to delivering these benefits and Hilda understood this. The project was not yet completed by her passing in 2023 and here’s where you come in. Please help us remember our amazing mother by contributing to this cause.

All funds raised here will be forwarded to a charitable foundation created with the town for the development of this facility.
