Cochlear Implant for Kadin Betts
Donation protected
Our son Kadin was born deaf in his left ear and had 20% hearing in his right ear with a hearing aid. As a family we persevered, adjusted and helped him lead a normal childhood as best we could.
In March of this year (2018), two months before his 15th birthday, Kadin complained of a loud ringing in his ear, a "popping sound." Within 2 weeks he had lost all hearing leaving him profoundly deaf. Since we never knew that this was a possibility it's been a tough 3 and a half months communicating by text or the limited lip reading he is able to understand.
We have been approved through insurance and the Hearing Institute in Dallas has set a surgery date of June, 25. We learned this today, June 13th. That's 12 days from today. We have paid numerous bills for several mandatory pre-op procedures such as MRI, Psychologist, speech therapist and several other expenses that have added up. These co-pays have ranged from $10-$550 put visit and these payments do not count towards his deductible. I have the funds saved to meet his deductible but other expenses such as travel, several hotel night stays, surgical center fees, additional hardware, missed days off work and whatever we still don't know are our challenge.
Please know that this is very hard for us to ask but we need our son out of his silent bubble and back to hearing us say, "We Love You" or "Why aren't your chores done ". :)
Please share this and help us get the word out. We are on borrowed time but I'm dedicated to doing what I must.
Thank you all,
The Betts Family
