Coco and Baby Vet Bill

Hi, my name is Carly Kuenstling and last night my mare Coco went into labor. Nothing about her labor was normal. The foals feet never presented, time was ticking and mare and baby were both at risk. We tried pulling the foal both in the field, and under sedation while the mare was on her back. There was no way this baby was coming out without a C-Section. My only options were euthanasia or C-Section.

With the help of my amazing parents, we gave the go-ahead with surgery. Without their support, there was no way I would have been able to even consider surgery. The clinic requires a down payment before they can proceed with treatment and there was absolutely no way I could afford that. My parents spent their entire vacation savings on helping save my mare and foal. I will forever be grateful to them for supporting me in this way.

After waiting what seemed like forever I was updated. They had gotten the foal out, it was a massive filly. They informed me that she was critical and needed help oxygenating. Then I was updated on the mare. She had a rough surgery, her pressure bottomed out, she bled more than normal, and had a hard time coming out of anesthesia. While in surgery they also found that my mare had colic, so they addressed that before closing.

So far their medical expenses are upwards of $17,000

We were quoted 8-10K for the mare and the foal was quoted at 4-7K

My goal is to pay back my parents and to make sure I can continue to give my horses the best possible care and chance at recovery.
