Dear friends and community,
I will never get out of my mind, the look on Cody’s face as we approached the shop..
In fact, I wish I could.
Complete devastation.
And, the timing for Cody right now is just so unfortunate.
He woke abruptly Monday to the devastating news that in the early hours of the morning, his entire van conversion shop had caught fire.
All of the contents, all of the many tools needed to build off-grid homes on wheels, his current project, absolutely everything... Completely burned to the ground.
Every hand tool and power tool he had acquired throughout his entire lifetime..
Laptop, backup hard drives and equipment..
Basically everything imaginable of an entire functioning business, gone in a flash.
Unfortunately, as well as personal items including his 2 motorcycles, and his own van build out still being stored after a recent house move he made last week, so he could now be just 5 minutes from the shop.
(Extra gut punch of the beautiful new adventure motorcycle he had just bought for a moto trip coming up for his 40th birthday, not even properly ridden yet ..nor insured.)
The crippling reality of his current main project, a rebuild he had spent the better part of the past year on, finally nearing completion... Absolutely melted to the chassis.
Along with the $20k worth of its final implements stacked and ready for installation.
Everything he dedicated his life to, all burned and melted away into a black disarray of ashes.
As you can imagine, this is absolutely gut-wrenching.
Witnessing the heart of this man, in staying strong while digesting this reality, has been painful and inspiring all at the same time.
If you know his core, you would know it couldn’t happen to a more compassionate and lovable person.
The support of local friends and neighbors has brought us to tears over and over with the outreach of love and support. The community is showing up with their sleeves rolled up.
We come to you here, as he has discovered that he cannot count on insurance for any help with this. Yes.. Allow that to digest for a minute.
As we swim through every emotion and maneuver all of the details and logistics, it is extremely testing of one's vulnerability to ask for communal support.
We are hopeful that if you have ever been inspired by someone like Cody, you know, the guy that you can call upon to help you in your time of need.. That you’ll feel touched by assisting in not only getting him back on his feet, but stronger than before. Back to building and changing lives as soon as possible.
Any donation will help, and anyone that can pass along our invitation of help to their community would be greatly appreciated.
His shop and its contents are easily valued above the goal amount, but it's hard to know how to begin..
If 5,000 people gave $20 we'd get Cody back to business operations.
With your support, this will not keep him down. He will rebuild and focus on helping others get into their homes on wheels, as his talent is so needed in the community right now.
Our hope is that you can help him continue to help others, and get our guy back to operating ASAP, as he is currently abruptly out of a business.
With our deepest sincerity,
Thank you.
Annie, close friends, and Cody.
From Cody...
“This is the most brutal feeling of loss I've experienced that didn’t include death.
It is the loss of everything I’ve brought to life in my business over the years. I’m just trying to figure out what the steps are to take to continue moving forward in my life.
Words cannot express how grateful I’ve been to have community through this super difficult event. Thank you for anything you can donate to help me find the light at the end of this."
