Cody needs life saving surgery

UPDATE UPDATE! 8/7/23

Hi everyone - so I have some amazing news that the pathology came back from Cody's surgery for his spleen removal - and the results are BENIGN!!!!!!! I have been waiting to shout this here on FB, I really had a good feeling after his surgery - also based on how well Cody has been doing. But I also had to wait for the final pathology results to share.

The pathology was taking so long because they were double and triple checking, and doing extra staining on the spleen (it was his entire spleen removed) and identified it as lymphoid nodular hyperplasia with NO evidence of a metastatic tumor or malignancy - but could have been pre-c word (which I am not going to even say!)

(Nodular lymphoid hyperplasia (NLH) is one of the most common non-neoplastic focal splenic masses, especially in old animals showing enlarged spleen). According to BMC Veterinary Research.

The final cost with both vet visits was $9,832.25 - so I can't thank you enough for your donations towards helping with his life-saving surgery. ❤ ❤ ❤ If I was not home when I noticed something was wrong with him, I am not sure we would have this incredible outcome. We will continue to post his recovery on his social media accounts. He is going back for follow-up blood work in a week - just to check his levels.

UPDATE: 7/20/23 Cody is home!! He was super happy to see me, but is tired and on a few meds as you can imagine.

He did eat chicken and rice that I made and batched for the next two days, and he is resting. I am of course watching him like a hawk. So I am trying to update everyone (and all his socials lol), and will keep you posted.

Still waiting for tests results to come back will be a few more days - but everything else test wise was normal and heading in the right direction. So keep those good vibes going.

Cody is in surgery - will update this when I know more. ❤️ Cody, who many of you know as the happiest, sweetest best boy, was seemingly lethargic after a short walk and I chalked it up to the heat/humidity/smoke in the air. But when we came back inside he did not want a treat or food, and if you know Cody he loves all food.

I checked his gums and he seemed a little bit pale and was just not feeling good. Called my vet - and immediately went to them, he was so quiet and lethargic I honestly didn’t I would be leaving there with him. He proceeded to throw up - and his body temp was on the low side and he some labored breathing. They did X-rays and saw a mass near his spleen. They bloodwork and also his oxygen level was low and they also did a needle pull and did get some blood from his abdomen.

my vet recommended taking him to the ER for surgery but I asked for an ultrasound to make sure they could see what it actually was, and if anything else showed up. They said it is just on his spleen and but are continuing more chest X-rays to make sure there is not any other masses.

we are at an ER vet awaiting results, he was wagging the entire time during the ultrasound and of course everyone loves him here.

We we’re quoted at least 10k for surgery, plus all the other tests. I am heartbroken - and want to see if we can give him a chance, but will also do what is right if there are any other masses.

Any help you can donate would mean the world to me, just like Cody does.
